Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) has launched a repeat bid for House Republican conference chair, according to a Politico report written by Mia McCarthy. Politico said McClain promised to "get back in the fight" after Tuesday's sweeping losses.

Rep. Erin Houchin (R-Ind.) is also challenging McClain for the post, The Hill reported in a story by Sudiksha Kochi. The outlet said Houchin made her challenge in a "Dear Colleague" letter to Republicans on Wednesday.

The Hill said the conference chair role will be central as Republicans work to sharpen their messaging while in the minority next year, and to counter Democrats' agenda heading into 2028.

Politico's report centers on McClain's bid, while The Hill's report centers on Houchin's challenge. The two outlets agree that McClain currently holds the post and that Houchin is seeking it, but they lead with different candidates.

The available reports do not give a date for the leadership vote and do not name any other candidates for the position.
